Le Quesnel is a village half-way between the towns of Roye and Boves and is just north of the main straight road from Noyon to Amiens. HILLSIDE CEMETERY is 3 kilometres north-east of the village on the north-west side of the road to Caix.

  • Photo of Melville Campbell Kearns– (From Stanstead College Yearbook, July 1919)
Signaller Melville C. Kearns, was born in Montreal, September 13th 1891. He was educated at the Montreal High School and later came to Stanstead College, where he was preparing himself to enter the Methodist ministry. Before enlistment he was in charge of the churches at Georgeville and Smith’s Mills. 
In January 1916, he enlisted as a signaller in the 117th Eastern Townships Battalion and after training at Stanstead and Valcartier, he left with his unit for England where he remained until March 1917. The 117th was then broken up and he was drafted to the 14th Royal Montreal Regiment. He was with this Battalion in all the engagements until he was killed in action at Amiens, August 9th 1918.

(state of Vermont).  For World War One, thirty-six men from Stanstead or 
from nearby communities are remembered on this war memorial.
