Location:

BEDFORD HOUSE CEMETERY ENCLOSURE NO.4 is located 2.5 Km south of Ieper town centre. The cemetery lies on the Rijselseweg (N365), the road connecting Ieper to Armentieres. From Ieper town centre the Rijselsestraat runs from the market square, through the Lille Gate (Rijselpoort) and directly over the crossroads with the Ieper ring road. The road name then changes to the Rijselseweg. The cemetery itself is located 2 Km after this crossroads on the left hand side of the Rijselseweg.

  • Photo of William Robert Dempsey– Private Dempster was born in Quincy, Mass. in 1889 of British parents. He and his siblings accompanied their mother on her return to the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright, Scotland in 1894. He remained there until 1911 when he immigrated to Saskatoon, Canada with the intention of committing his life to farming. At the outbreak of WW1 he joined the Manitoba Rifles and was killed near Ypres June 14, 1916. From the Dumfries and Galloway 23/8/1916 page 6c.
