Location:

Le Havre is an important town and port on the north side of the estuary of the River Seine. STE. MARIE CEMETERY is one of the town cemeteries, but it is actually situated in the commune of Graville-St. Honorine. It stands on the ridge overlooking Le Havre from the north and is north of the N.182.

  • Extract from personal diaries– Page from a notepad written on the trip over.
  • Page from notebook– Page from a notepad written on Dec 5, 1916 recording a bet on when the war would be over.
  • Personal artifacts– Photo of some of the property of George Venables.  The small leather pouch was carried up untill his death (by flu in an English hospital) and contains several coins from that time, including french and german.  The medal is a service medal issued after his death.
Other items include the Engineers brass, and buttons.
  • Medals– Service medal and mailing box. Recieved by family after the war.
  • Change Pouch– Change pouch and contents carried at time of death. Survived the fighting, died of the flu in an English hospital.
