Fraser was one of 315 trawlers taken up from Hull by the Royal Navy during WW I, of which 52 were lost during the war. HMT Fraser was 310 tons and had been built in 1907 by Cook, Welton & Gemmell, Ltd. of Beverley (Hull), England for fishing. She was converted in April 1915 for minesweeping and fitted with a single 3-pounder gun. Fraser was sunk by a German mine on 17 June 1917 near Boulogne, France in the English Channel; during which 13 sailors were killed including Ordinary Seaman William John Jones, RNCVR.
