Son of Sidney and Isabel Torraville of Change Islands, Newfoundland.Brother of Ronald and Elizabeth. Able Seaman Torraville is also commemorated on the Korean War Memorial at the Naval Museum of Alberta at HMCS Tecumseh in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY is 9 kilometres west of the city on Yuenchi-Dori, Hodogaya Ward, which branches left off the old Tokkaido highway. The nearest railway station is Hodogaya, 5 kilometres to the north on the JNR line but the cemetery is easily reached by bus from Yokohama station.

  • Memorial– A section of the Korea Veterans National Wall of Remembrance in Meadowvale Cemetery, Brampton, Ontario. The memorial consists of a central section and 13 other sections containing memorial plaques for each of the 516 Canadian service men who died while serving with the Canadian Forces in the United Nations operations in Korea. It was erected by the Korea Veterans Association of Canada and was dedicated on July 27, 1997.

  • Inscription– Able Seaman IAN THOMAS LANG TORRAVILLE is one of 13 members of the Canadian Forces commemorated on this panel, and is one of the 516 soldiers whose names appear on the Korean War Monument in Ottawa.  It was erected IN LOVING MEMORY OF THE CANADIAN WHO DIED IN SERVICE DURING THE KOREAN WAR 1950-1953 AND ON KOREAN PEACE KEEPING DUTIES, 1953-1957.  Able Seaman TORRAVILLE died on August 5, 1952 and is buried in the YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY, Japan

This features a Canadian soldier, facing toward Busan, Korea, where an identical monument watches over the graves of 378 Canadians in the United Nations Memorial Cemetery. Accompanying the volunteer are two Korean children, both holding symbols: the girl, a bouquet of maple leaves symbolizing Canada; and the boy, a bouquet of maple leaves and roses of Sharon, the national flower of Korea.

  • Memorial– The Naval Museum of Alberta Society and the Calgary naval community erected a memorial dedicated to all Royal Canadian Navy sailors who served, and particularly to those who died, during the Korean War. The memorial was officially unveiled on 25 June 2000 by the Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta and the Chief of the Maritime Staff.
