Location:

Sains les Marquion is a village approximately 12 kilometres north-west of Cambrai and 2 kilometres south of the Arras to Cambrai road (D939). The QUARRY WOOD CEMETERY lies at the end of an access path to the left of the D15 road heading towards Havrincourt, about 2 kilometres from the village.

  • Photo of William Peterson– My maternal Great Grandfather, William Peterson,  born 25 Apr 1880 in Sweden, died in battle on 27 Sep 1918.  My maternal Great Grandfather enlisted on 29 Feb 1916 (leap day!), he left at home a wife and six children in Vancouver, BC.  Before he died, his youngest daughter at the age of 2 years 5 months had died from the Spanish influenza while he was overseas. His mother also passed away while he was away.  His wife, Hilda Bjork Johnson Peterson, survived him and raised the surviving five children. Hilda Peterson lived to the age of 90 years. LEST WE NOT FORGET!!
