Son of Pranciskus Butkevicius (aka Frank Butchevich) and Emelija Svetlikauskas (aka Amelia) from Sudbury, Ontario. Brother of Victor, Joseph, Stanley, Helen and Jenny.

During the Second World War, he served in Europe, including France and Germany. With the 1st Battalion, he left on 28 March 1952 for Japan and then South Korea. Resting for a few weeks, he worked on improving defensive works and recreational activities. He was accidentally killed with his submachine gun on 31 July 1952.

His name is inscribed on the cenotaph of the Korean War Memorial at Meadowvale Cemetery in Brampton, Peel, Ontario, on the Korean War Memorial in downtown Ottawa, Ontario, and on the identical one at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Pusan, South Korea.

UNITED NATIONS CEMETERY (BUSAN) South Korea

The United Nations Cemetery is located in Tanggok, a suburb of Busan. The land for the cemetery was granted to the United Nations by the Republic of Korea as a tribute to all those who had laid down their lives in combatting aggression and in upholding peace and freedom. There are 2,267 servicemen buried in the United Nations Memorial Cemetery. Of these 1,538 were Commonwealth soldiers, including 376 Canadians.
