Son of Mr. Henry and Mrs. Anna Elizabeth (née Brown) Currie. Brother of Harry who served overseas throughout the war with the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa and Douglas, also in uniform, but kept in Canada because of his youth. He joined the No. 2 Troop Carrying Company, RCASC. He was a despatch rider. He served in Canada, United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He was discharged 5 July 1945. Rank at discharge - Private. After a few months, he volunteered for occupation duty and was transfered back to Germany. He stayed there for 10 months and then was returned to Canada and received an honourable discharge. Three years to the day after he returned to civilian life, he resigned from his civilian job with the Canadian National Railroad and applied for service with the American Forces. At the time of his death, Pvt Currie was serving in the American Armed Service, 19th Infantry, Company E.
