Kent Griffiths

Major (Retired) Kent Griffiths, MMM, CD, contributes mightily within the Veteran community. Kent is currently the 1st Vice President of The Royal Canadian Legion, the Regimental Secretary of the Calgary Highlanders, the Curator of the Calgary Highlanders Regimental Museum and Archives, the Treasurer of the Calgary Highlanders Regimental Association, the President of the Algonquin Regiment Veterans Association, the Editor and Co-webmaster of The Glen Regimental Magazine, and past President of the Royal Alberta United Services Institute and director of the War in Pieces Society.

Kent served as a reservist in the Canadian Armed Forces for 42 years. In 2006, Kent became a volunteer organizer and emcee for Remembrance Day ceremonies in Calgary and the surrounding area. He continues to speak at local schools during Veterans’ Week every year. For the past three years, Kent has helped organize and deliver the Field of Crosses ceremonies in Calgary.

Kent has been in a leadership role with The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 285 Calgary since 2019. Currently, he sits as 1st Vice President and is actively involved with the Poppy Campaign, youth mentoring and membership recruitment.

Kent is also a volunteer with the Calgary Military Family Resource Centre, is President of the Algonquin Regiment Veterans Association and is a first aid instructor with St. John Ambulance. He is also the Director for the Organization of Military Museums of Canada, a member of the Calgary Highlanders Regimental Sergeant Major’s Council, a member of the 41 Canadian Brigade Group Senate and the Algonquin Regiment Senate.

Kent is also a Director with the War in Pieces Society, a Veterans writing group who meet monthly to share their stories in a safe environment as a form of therapy to deal with trauma. The writing group compiled some of their stories and published the book A Mile in Their Boots in 2022.
