Lisa Cyr, a Veteran and a committed businesswoman, created a one-of-a-kind café, bringing together a congenial atmosphere and animal-assisted therapy, to support the cause of Veterans.

After 12 years of service in the Canadian Armed Forces, Lisa was deeply moved by the solitude, isolation and disorientation experienced by many Veterans after their transition to civilian life. Her response, in 2019, was to open a warm and inclusive café where every Veteran, whatever their background, is welcomed with respect and care. The café offers a safe space to relax in the presence of cats, talk to other Veterans and regain a sense of belonging, all at their own pace and without judgment.

Lisa dedicates all of her time and energy to helping her brothers and sisters in arms who are facing challenges such as anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or adjustment disorder. Through her initiative, she has helped at least seven Veterans move out of homelessness or isolation or overcome suicidal thoughts. By making them part of the café as volunteers, she enabled them to make contact with the public again, regain their self-confidence, and restore meaning to their lives.

Every cup of coffee sold contributes to the mental health of Veterans ($1 per cup). Lisa has also launched a barbecue sauce and a stuffed animal representing the café’s feline mascot, “La Vet”. The profits are contributed to causes such as Opération Enfant Soleil, the Breakfast Club and Kiwanis.

In another innovative move, Lisa created a human-sized version of the mascot that helps Veterans suffering from disorders related to physical contact or social anxiety. By wearing the costume at events such as those of the Legion, Veterans UN-NATO, or the Thunder Ride in Trois-Rivières and, since 2024, in Québec City, these Veterans can participate actively while feeling protected. This initiative has had a very positive effect on their mental wellness.

Lisa is also recognized as a spokesperson for Veterans, including through the Remparts de Québec and the Respect program, which brings together Veterans’ organizations across Canada.

In August 2024, she founded the Fondation La Vet Ma Langue Aux Chats, as well as a not-for-profit organization (NFPO) of the same name, to help Veterans, military members, first responders and their families.

Lisa Cyr is a woman of heart, integrity and deep commitment, making her an inspiring figure. She dedicates her life to ensuring that no Veteran is forgotten, alone or without hope. Her dedication is recognized and appreciated by everyone. Her mission is clear: never abandon a brother or sister in arms.
