Llewellyn Robinson

Llewellyn (Llew) Robinson has devoted 10 years to helping Veterans and their families in a variety of ways through the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Veterans’ Association, Prince Edward Island Division.

After having served as a Peace Officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for 45 and a half years, Llew has continued to contribute his time and energy to helping and serving Veterans and their families in the Prince Edward Island Division of the RCMP Veterans’ Association. He is described as a leader with great organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and having a proactive approach to serving. Llew serves as the Secretary of the organization, which involves many hours of volunteer time to receive inquires, correspondence, and organize regular meetings and events of the division throughout the year. As Secretary, he is the first point of contact for members and their families, commonly contacted by widows/widowers when vital information and assistance is needed to access well-being services and support. Llew provides informed advice and counsel at critical times in the lives of Veterans and their family.

Llew is reliable and goes above and beyond his duties. He not only volunteers with events, but organizes and leads events as well. He has worked diligently to build and develop the relationship between the serving RCMP Members and the Prince Edward Island “L” Division of the RCMP Veterans’ Association. He has been paramount in the enhancement of this partnership through the RCMP Veterans’ Association initiatives. Examples of his efforts include invites to the Veterans’ meeting for updates on the status of the active RCMP projects, support and promotion of the celebration of the RCMP’s 150th anniversary in 2023, and attendance as a representative of the Veterans’ Association to active RCMP divisional events. A major event that was initiated, administered and completed by Llew’s direction was the RCMP L Division 150 Acts of Kindness for the RCMP 150th anniversary. The initiative included the donation of 150 pieces of clothing, 150 volunteer hours for seniors, 150 food bank donations, 150 book donations and numerous other volunteer acts to support the ongoing L Division RCMP 150 Acts of Kindness.

In 2023, Llew coordinated and supported local food and clothing drives, to ensure RCMP Veterans on Prince Edward Island were well represented at different 150th anniversary celebrations, like the Musical Ride performance in Crapaud, Prince Edward Island, and the Gold Cup and Saucer Parade, among others.

Llew was co-winner of an award recognizing his efforts in caregiving. Llew and the other recipient generously answered the call from the Alzheimer’s Society seeking support for a former comrade living with dementia, along with his wife. Due in large part to Llew’s action, the Prince Edward Island Veterans’ Association also received an L Division Commanding Officer’s Commendation at the 2023 RCMP Long Service Recognition Ceremony.

Llew had dedicated thousands of hours not only in the service of Veterans, but within the community as a whole in a wide range of roles including first aid instructor, hockey coach, and the Queen Elizabeth hospital, among many others.
