Burial/memorial information
Baptized Donia-Alexandre Deslauriers. Son of François-Xavier Deslauriers (deceased in 1907) and Eugénie Desrosiers-dit-Lafrenière (deceased in 1896). He named his uncle Odilon Lafrenière, of Montréal, as next-of-kin.
Enlisted as a soldier, serial number 61649, in the 22nd Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he landed in Plymouth, England, on May 29, 1915. He was promoted to acting corporal on July 1 and sergeant on July 8. On September 15, 1915, he arrived in Le Havre, Normandy, France. On June 11, 1916, he suffered a nervous shock caused by a shell explosion. On November 1 of the same year, he was promoted to lieutenant. On September 23, 1917, he was buried alive and suffered a concussion following the explosion of a gas shell. On May 28, 1918, he was mentioned in the Order of the Day (MID) and appointed adjutant of his unit on August 11 by Captain George Philias Vanier. On August 14, he was slightly wounded in combat and remained on duty. On February 3, 1919, in Sambreville, Belgium, he fell seriously ill and on the 4th, he died of pneumonia at the 48th Canadian Casualty Clearing Station in Sambreville.
