Private Peter Ritchie
Peter Ritchie is remembered on the Southampton Cenotaph. This war memorial includes plaques with the names of men from World Wars 1 & 2. The WWI list is inscribed: "In grateful remembrance of the men of Southampton who fought and died in the Great War" and indicates that Peter Ritchie and four other men were from the Saugeen Reserve. Another man from the Saugeen Reserve, Pte. Daniel Nawash, also fought in the 18th Battalion Western Ontario Regiment with Ritchie, and died on the same day. Southampton is in Bruce County, Ontario. The Saugeen Reserve is on the shore of Lake Huron and is home to the First Nation Chippewa of Saugeen. This photograph was taken by Mr. Clive Freeman in the summer of 2002.

Wancourt is a village about 8 kilometres south-east of Arras. It is 2 kilometres south of the main road from Arras to Cambrai. The WANCOURT BRITISH CEMETERY is a short distance south-east of the village just off the D 35 road.
