Baptized Joseph Arthur Gallant, he served under the name Arthur Gallant. Son of Joseph-E. Gallant and Marie-Anne Poirier, of Ipswich, Massachusetts. Enlisted in the 258th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he sailed for Great Britain on October 4, 1917, and landed in England on the 17th. Upon arrival, he was assigned to the 10th Reserve Battalion. On March 18, 1918, he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion. On the 28th, he left for France, where he arrived on the 29th. From April 3 to June 17, 1918, he was loaned to a reinforcement company.
Upon his arrival in France on 29 March 1918, he was first placed with the reinforcements and joined the unit only on 6 August. He was killed in action three week later on August 27, 1918, during an assault in the Battle of Chérisy, Pas-de-Calais.

Take the D38 from Cherisy to Hendecourt. Approximately 2 kilometres from Cherisy turn left just before Sun Quarry Cemetery onto a dirt track. Continue for 1 kilometre before turning left to arrive at Quebec Cemetery.
