Burial/memorial information
At the time of his enlistment he had named an uncle as his next of kin, namely: Anthime Bazinet, husband of Édesse Brunet (deceased in 1919), of St-Canut, Deux-Montagnes, Québec. He had also declared himself a native of St-Canut but he cannot be found in genealogy resources. The above date of birth is therefore according to what he had declared at the time.
Enlisted in the 163rd Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force on March 20, 1916, he was attached to the Composite Battalion on June 21, to the 206th Battalion on August 15, and to the 167th Battalion on September 9, with which he embarked on the 23rd for Great Britain and arrived on October 6 in Liverpool, England. He was attached to the 69th Battalion and, on January 4, 1917, to the 10th Reserve Battalion. On an unspecified date, he transferred to the 150th Battalion in Shoreham. On April 17, he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion and crossed the English Channel, landing on the 18th in Le Havre, Normandy, France. On the 30th, he went to the front lines in the Vimy region. He was killed in action on July 6, 1917, during the Battle of Lens, Pas-de-Calais. He was temporarily buried at the Caldron Military Cemetery in Red Milles, 2 miles (3 km) southwest of Lens, in grave 1.B.49, before being exhumed and reburied in Loos-en-Gohelle, Pas-de-Calais.
