Burial/memorial information
Baptized Nazaire-Herménégilde Fréchette. Son of Albini Fréchette and Adèle Groleau, of St-Georges-de-Windsor and Asbestos, Richmond, Québec. He stated being born in 1889 when he enlisted.
Enlisted in the 117th Battalion Eastern Townships Overseas of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he sailed for Great Britain on August 14, 1916, and landed in Liverpool, England, on the 24th. Assigned to the 150th Reserve Battalion on October 31, he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion on November 28, 1916. He crossed into France on the 29th and landed in Boulogne, Pas-de-Calais, the same day. He went to the front lines in the trenches of Lens, Pas-de-Calais, on December 4. Suffering from trench fever on March 24, 1917, then trench foot on April 10, he was evacuated. He returned to his unit on August 8, 1917. He was reported missing, then presumed wounded, and finally presumed killed in action. It was not until April 15, 1919, that it was confirmed that he had been killed in action on August 15, 1917.
At the end of March 1917, he was evacuated to heal a serious case of trench foot and he returned to the battalion on 8 August 1917. Seven days later, he was severely wounded and missing in action.
