Additional information

Baptized Louis Eugène Finel. Son of Alexandre Finel, from Paris, France, and Azéline Brien dit Desrochers (deceased 1902) of Montréal, Québec. Alexandre remaried in 1903 with Virginie Vachon. Eugène stated being born on 9 October 1892 when he enlisted. 

Enlisted in the 22nd Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he sailed for Great Britain on May 20, 1915, and landed in Plymouth, England, on the 29th. On September 15, he left for France, arriving in Boulogne, Pas-de-Calais, the same day. On January 30, 1916, he was wounded in combat in the right knee during fighting in the Somme sector of France. He fought in the trenches at Vierstraat, Belgium, and in March in those of Saint-Éloi in the Ypres Salient, Belgium. He was killed in action on June 10, 1916, during the Battle of Zillebeke-Mont-Sorrel in the Ypres Salient. He was reported missing, and his body was never found.
