Son of Casimir Guérin (deceased in 1891) and Adélaïde (aka Adèle) Jodoin (deceased in 1883), of Montréal, Québec. He had declared that he was born in 1875 at the time of his enlistment and he had named only a friend as his next of kin.
Enlisted in the 57th Reserve Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he sailed for Great Britain on June 16, 1915, and landed in Plymouth, England, on the 28th. On November 1, 1915, he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion and sent to France on the 2nd, arriving in Rouilles, Pas-de-Calais, that same day. From January 1 to May 5, 1916, he was first seconded to the lumber battalion of the 2nd Division Headquarters, then to the Divisional Burial Party from May 19 to June 8, 1916. Upon returning to his unit, he was killed in action on September 19, 1916, during the Battle of Zillebeke-Mont-Sorrel, in the Ypres Salient, Belgium. His body was never recovered.
