First enrolled on 18 March 1916 in Mont-Joli, Québec, in the 189th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, regimental number 889661, he was declared a deserter on 11 August 1916 and discharged from the army. At Camp Valcartier, he enlisted for the second time on the 12th with the 117th Battalion, regimental number 749314. In England on 31 October 1916, he was posted to the 150th Battalion. Transferred to the 22nd Battalion on 27 February 1918, he landed in France on the 28th. On 14 March 1918, he went to the front line. Initially reported missing on 28 August 1918, he was later declared killed in action on that date during the Battle of Chérisy.
