This cenotaph, a four-sided granite obelisk with beveled corners, was erected by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #107 sometime after 1918. It is located in front of St. Mary’s Church, and is in memorial to the fallen of Sorrento.

Unveiled by His Royal Highness, Edward, Prince of Wales, in September 1919, this memorial was originally dedicated to the local war dead of the First World War. A plaque was later added in memory of the Korean War. Directions - Take Highway 6 east of Vernon to Lavington. Turn right onto School Road and drive approximately one half mile. The memorial is in Lavington Centennial Park which is situated on the right.

In November of 1950, thousands of soldiers were sent to Fort Lewis, Washington, for training before their journey to Korea. They traveled by rail. At 10:35 in the morning on November 21, a troop train carrying 340 soldiers - soldiers of the 2nd Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery - was just east of the village of Canoe River, British Columbia. An express train on the same track was approaching in the opposite direction.

The two trains crashed head-on. The troop train was tossed into the air, its engine thrown back onto the coach cars behind it. Steel cars were shattered by other steel cars in a raging inferno. Seventeen Canadian soldiers died that morning and the bodies of four of them were never found. Many of those who escaped death suffered horrible injury including massive burns. The sacrifice made by the men at Canoe River was no less than that of all war Veterans who died in the service of our country.

Erected by the municipalities of Armstrong and Spallumcheen, this memorial is dedicated to the local war dead of the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. This memorial is wheelchair accessible. Directions - To get to this memorial turn left off the highway at Rosedale Avenue, continue down Rosedale Avenue to the second stop sign. Turn right onto Pleasant Valley Road and go down approximately one half mile. The memorial is on the left side of Pleasant Valley Road.

The Enderby Drill Hall was completed in June 1914. Built with Enderby bricks on land donated by F.H. Barnes, the building cost $15,000. It was 42' x 92' with a birch floor and a single front door. There were 3 large storerooms on the main floor and 3 officers' and reading rooms in the balcony. In the basement were furnace rooms, an ammunition closet, and a rifle range. The Drill Hall was built for the C Squadron of B.C. Horse and the 172nd Battalion of the Rocky Mountain Rangers. It has been used over the years by the cadet corps of the Rocky Mountain Rangers, by badminton and basketball clubs, and by many community organizations for dinners and dances. In 1946 washrooms were installed on both floors, plus sinks with hot and cold running water. The City of Enderby purchased the building from the federal government in 1959. The kitchen facilities were completely renovated by community groups, and the interior and exterior walls were painted. In 1998, the Drill Hall Committee of the Arts Council was formed to assume responsibility for the Drill Hall. Paint was removed from the exterior of the building in July 1998. Kitchen facilities and washrooms were renovated to meet building codes and fire regulations in August 1999. The Drill Hall continues to be used by residents and community associations. Enderby and District Memorial Hospital was formally opened by the Honourable Byron I. Johnson, Premier of the province of British Columbia on May 21, 1952. The hospital was dedicated to the men and women from Enderby and district who fought in the wars.

A bronze plaque on one side of the memorial presents an Honour Roll commemorating those local citizens who paid the supreme sacrifice for their country in the First and Second World Wars. RCL 167 - John Kirchsteiger built the cenotaph in the later part of 1948. It stood in front of the Legion to the right of the front door, which faced east. In 1976 - 1978, when the Legion made preparations to enlarge the hall, the cenotaph was moved to the Community Park, where it presently sits and where the Remembrance Day Parade ends. Directions - Take Highway 6 east of Vernon to Lumby. In Lumby turn left at the four-way stop onto Shuswap Avenue. Two blocks down turn right onto Glencaird Street. The memorial is one block down on the left.
