This armoury was named in honour of Lieutenant-Colonel C.L. Gammon. He was born in 1907. He sailed for England with the North Shore Regiment in July 1941, as a company second-in-command. His unit spent the next few years training in Liverpool and Scotland in preparation for the D-Day landings. On June 6, 1944, Captain Gammon commanding the Regiment's Support Company, landed on Juno Beach in the Nan Red sector.

He participated in the capture of Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer. Soon after he was promoted to major and placed in command of D Company, leading his company during the attack on the Carpiquet airfield, where the North Shore Regiment lost nearly 130 men. He later fought with his regiment in Caen and all through France. By September 1944, the regiment had advanced into Holland, where Gammon took part in the battle of the Scheldt and the fighting near the Maas River. In February 1945, they moved into Germany, fighting in the Rhineland, the Hochwald, and ended the war on German soil.

Gammon later commanded the North Shore Regiment from April 1951 to September 1954 and the renamed regiment - 2nd Battalion Royal New Brunswick Regiment (North Shore) - from October 1954 to May 1956. He died in June 1993.

This cenotaph was constructed in 1975 in honour of those who gave their life for the country. It was unveiled on 27 July 1975 during the centennial activities of the parish. The monument is located in the heart of the village, in front of the oldest cemetery, facing the church. It was in 1975 that Father Gérard Gautreau, Parish priest, organized a committee of veterans to put in action the construction of a cenotaph. Presided by Mr. Edgar Brideau, the committee decided that a lottery was the best way of raising the necessary funds. First prize was to be an ancient well, designed and offered by Mr. Brideau. Veterans sold tickets to local citizens and a census of all veterans was done at the same time. The lottery brought $509.50 and the names of the 240 veterans who served either in the South African War or the First and Second World Wars were recorded. The money raised by the veterans together with the help from generous donations and the parish itself allowed the construction to begin in 1975. It is made of marble with a plaque listing the names of those who gave their life for the country: First World War: Xavier Haché, Alexandre McGrath and Jean-Louis Morias; Second World War: Job Duguay, Joseph P. Haché, Aurèle Losier and Sylvestre Thomas. The monument was unveiled on 27 July 1975 following a parade by the veterans of the Tracadie Legion. In 1995, citizens added trees, shrubs, and sidewalks creating a truly peaceful environment. Three flagpoles were added and another shaft for a future monument to the founding members of the parish. Most of them are already buried behind the cenotaph.
