PORTAGE TEMISCOUATA

DÈS LES PREMIERS TEMPS DU PAYS, LA COMMUNICATION INTÉRIEURE ENTRE L'ACADIE ET QUÉBEC NÉCESSITAIT PLUSIEURS PORTAGES. CELUI-CI ÉTAIT LE PLUS LONG ET LE PLUS DIFFICILE. DANS L'HIVER DE 1813, LE 104e RÉGIMENT DU NOUVEAU BRUNSWICK TRAVERSA CETTE ROUTE À MARCHE FORCÉE POUR PRÊTER MAIN-FORTE AUX CANADAS. EMPLACEMENT DU FORT INGALL, BÂTI EN 1839.

FROM THE FIRST SETTLEMENT OF THE COUNTRY, IN THE OVERLAND ROUTE BETWEEN ACADIA AND QUEBEC, THERE WERE SEVERAL PORTAGES OF WHICH THIS WAS THE LONGEST AND MOST DIFFICULT. IN THE WINTER OF 1813, THE 104th (NEW BRUNSWICK) REGIMENT MADE ITS FAMOUS MARCH OVER THIS ROUTE TO AID IN THE DEFENCE OF THE CANADAS. HERE STOOD FORT INGALL, BUILT IN 1839.
