Baptized Joseph-Damas-Armand Gaudet. Son of Jean-Baptiste-Hector Gaudet and Cordélia Beauregard, of Montréal, Québec. He stated being born in 1896 when he enlisted. According to available information, he spent quite some time in Massachusetts during his childhood, from 1902 to 1911.

Enlisted in the 22nd Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he sailed for Great Britain on May 20 and arrived in Plymouth, England, on the 29th. On September 15, he crossed the English Channel and landed in Boulogne, Pas-de-Calais, that same day. On May 14, 1916, he was accidentally wounded by a bullet in his left heel while in a trench in St-Éloi, Belgium. He was hospitalized until May 28. On June 8, 1916, he was fatally wounded by a bullet in his upper leg while on the front line in the trenches during the Battle of Zillebeke-Mont-Sorrel in the Ypres Salient, Belgium.

He was wounded in the area of Saint-Éloi – Zillebeke, near Ypres, and he died of his wounds at No. 1 Canadian Field Ambulance, then located in Vlamertinghe.

RAILWAY DUGOUTS BURIAL GROUND Belgium

RAILWAY DUGOUTS BURIAL GROUND (Transport Farm) is located 2 Km south east of Ieper town centre, on the Komenseweg, a road connecting Ieper to Komen (N336).

From Ieper town centre the Komenseweg is located via the Rijselsestraat, through the Rijselpoort (Lille Gate) and crossing the Ieper ring road, towards Armentieres and Lille. The road name then changes to Rijselseweg. 1 Km along the Rijselseweg lies the left hand turning onto Komenseweg. The cemetery itself is located 1.2 Km along the Komenseweg on the right hand side of the road.
