Baptized Joseph-Albert-Narcisse Grimard. Son of Narcisse Grimard and Albina Raymond, of Montréal (Hochelaga), Québec. He stated being born in 1893 when he enlisted.

Brother of Private Wilfrid Grimard, who died while serving with the Canadian Infantry (Quebec Regiment).

Enlisted in the 22nd Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he reported having served for 18 months with the 65th Regiment, the Carabiniers Mont-Royal. He was illiterate. He sailed for Great Britain on May 20, 1915, and landed on the 29th in Plymouth, England. On September 15, he departed from Folkestone for France, where he arrived the same day in Boulogne, Pas-de-Calais. He was mortally wounded in the head on October 3, 1916, during the Battle of Courcelette, Somme, and died the same day at the 9th Casualty Clearing Station.

CONTAY BRITISH CEMETERY Somme, France

Contay is a village in the Department of the Somme on the main road, Amiens to Arras. The CONTAY BRITISH CEMETERY lies on the left (north east) side of the road to Franvillers. There are no access problems. There is a CWGC road sign next to the church and square of the village and next to the D23, Franvillers - Corbie, sign. The distance from the CWGC sign to the Cemetery is approximately 650 metres.
