(Pour plus d'information, voir Le Courrier de la Nouvelle-Ecosse du vendredi 29 août 1997)./Note that a plaque was added on the bottom of the original plaque in order to add the name of Émile Comeau. In 1996, the parishes of Clare wanted to know the names of the soldiers of their region who had been killed in the wars. Given this request, a legionnaire, Gérard Thériault, discovered that two men from the region named Émile Comeau had sacrificed their lives in the world wars (one during the first war, and the other during the second) and that the name of the second did not appear on the plaque. It was thus that, in 1997, on the occasion of a special remembrance ceremony, the name of Émile Comeau was inscribed on another plaque added at the bottom of the monument.

This monument commemorates the soldiers of the region who served during the two world wars or in the Korean War. The monument is located on the grounds of Branch 52 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Saulnierville. The monument was inaugurated in front of Sacré-Coeur Catholic Church, in Saulnierville, on August 18, 1935, in memory of the soldiers of the First World War. In 1959, the monument was moved to a private lot; in 1976, it was transferred to its current location, on Legion grounds. The monument also commemorates the soldiers of the region who fought in the Korean War. Though the Clare Legion (Branch 52) includes many veterans of the Korean War, no soldiers from the region lost their lives there. This plaque was unveiled on September 25, 1988.

Made of granite and located on the grounds of the Community Hall in Arcadia. The monument was unveiled on June 2, 1922, in memory of five young men from the area who died in the service in the First World War. The cannon is a part of the grounds set aside for the monument. It is at the rear just out of sight of the tree to the right of the monument. Every year, a memorial service is held at the site with the local school students in attendance and laying the wreaths. The students from grades 4 - 6 parade from the school.

This Brook is named after Sgt. Ken Power a Veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force born in New Waterford, N.S., who passed away in 2014 at 59 years of age.

“He served 25 years as an operational search and rescue technician on bases from Gander, N.L., to Cosmox, B.C., logging more than 8,200 flying hours during his career.” – Province of NS news release

Sgt. Ken Power was awarded the Star of Courage in 1998 for a rescue on Sept. 24th 1996. Power and Master Cpl. Gregory Allen Smit rescued four sailors from a boat that was almost capsized off Sable Island in dangerous waters.

In 2001 he was honoured with the Medal of Bravery when he and Master Cpl. Sylvain Joseph Roger Trudel jumped from an aircraft at night to rescue two men whose plane had crashed north of Havre St-Pierre, Que. They elected to perform a risky parachute decent for fears the rescue helicopter would take too long to arrive. When they landed they aided survivors until the rescue helicopter arrived.

The idea for the  Brook renaming came from Sgt. Power’s brother.
