THIS TABLET COMMEMORATES THOSE IN THE SERVICE
OF THE CANADIAN PACIFIC RAILWAY COMPANY WHO
AT THE CALL OF KING AND COUNTRY LEFT ALL THAT
WAS DEAR TO THEM, ENDURED HARDSHIP, FACED DANGER
AND FINALLY PASSED OUT OF SIGHT OF MEN BY THE
PATH OF DUTY AND SELF SACRIFICE. GIVING UP THEIR
OWN LIVES THAT OTHERS MIGHT LIVE IN FREEDOM
LET THOSE WHO COME AFTER SEE TO IT
THAT THEIR NAMES BE NOT FORGOTTEN.

The Canadian Pacific Railway Great War Tablet in Windsor Station was dedicated on April 28, 1922.

To honour those who served and gave their lives during the Great War, the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) erected a series of bronze memorial tablets in over twenty select locations along their railway system and offices in Canada, United States, England and China. The tablet depicts Britannia, the national personification of Britain, as a helmeted female warrior with a lion to her right and a shield at her feet, HMS Lion (Admiral Beatty's flagship during the Battle of Jutland) with airplanes above and a tank in front, Canadian Pacific Steamship RMS Empress of Russia (used during the war as an armed merchant cruiser and transport ship), Canadian troops, and a CPR locomotive in a nod to all those who travelled by train across Canada before heading overseas. The plaque was designed by Archibald Pearce, Chief Engineer's Department, Montreal, with its model and casting by the Bromsgrove Guild at Worcester, England.

Winged Victory was erected by the Canadian Pacific Railway in the memory of its employees who were killed during the First World War. It was unveiled by the Governor General Julian Byng, 1st Viscount Byng of Vimy on 28 April 1922.

The Canadian Pacific Railway commissioned three Winged Victory statues from Montreal sculptor Coeur de Lion MacCarthy to commemorate the 1,116 employees it lost in the First World War. All three statues were unveiled simultaneously on the same date. The statue depicts an angel carrying a deceased soldier to heaven at the moment of his death. The angel holds a laurel wreath, the symbol of victory, in her upraised hand. The other two identical memorials are in Manitoba and Vancouver

After the Second World War, the date 1939-1945 was added to the inscription.

Coeur de Lion MacCarthy, the son of sculptor Hamilton McCarthy, produced numerous commemorative works after the First World War, including: Winged Victory in British Columbia; Great War Memorial and Lethbridge Cenotaph in Alberta; Winged Victory in Manitoba; County of Brome War Memorial, Verdun Victory MemorialMonument to the Brave and Winged Victory in Quebec; Clifton Hill War Memorial and Woodstock Cenotaph in Ontario.

George Hill's monument “To the Men of Westmount who gave their lives in the Great War” features a soldier wearing battle gear, rifle in his left hand, marching forward, full of purpose and intent. He glances over his right shoulder to see the figure of a comely, womanly winged angel pointing the way to a place where he can do glorious battle with the enemy. This Canadian soldier is on the side of the angels, the side chosen by Heaven itself.

Sir Arthur Currie, whom historians generally regard as Canada's finest soldier, and Canadian-born U.S. Admiral William Sowden Sims unveiled the memorial on November 11, 1922. Built for $40,000, the cenotaph, the work of sculptor G.W. Hill, features two figures that are 12 feet high - an angel protecting a soldier. It is located near a parapet wall engraved with the names of those from Westmount who died in the First and Second World Wars.

George William Hill was born in Shipton, Eastern Townships, in 1861. He learned to carve marble in his father’s company, after he graduated from college. Between 1889 and 1894, he left Quebec to study sculpting at the École nationale des beaux-arts and Académie Julian in Paris. When he returned to Montreal, he opened a studio and worked with architect Robert Findlay and brothers Edward and William S. Maxwell. Known for his public monuments and war memorials, he is now considered one of the most important Canadian sculptors of the early twentieth century.

Hill designed several monuments commemorating Canadians lost in the South African War, including the Strathcona and South African Soldiers' Memorial in Quebec and Boer War Soldiers Monument in Ontario. At the end of the First World War, Hill was awarded several contracts by towns and cities wishing to pay homage to citizens who had died on the battlefields. Between 1920 and 1930 he designed these monuments: Westmount CenotaphMagog CenotaphArgenteuil CenotaphRichmond CenotaphSherbrooke War Memorial in Quebec; Pictou County War Memorial in Nova Scotia; Soldier's MonumentThe Soldier and Nurses’ Memorial in Ontario; and the Soldier's Monument in Prince Edward Island.

This memorial is dedicated to the brave men and women who belonged to the Sainte-Anne Division, 1939-45. It was erected by the Sainte-Anne Division. This memorial honours army, navy and air force veterans from the Point St. Charles area. It was unveiled on November 9, 1947, by councillor and MNA Frank Hanley. It took ten years to raise the money to build the monument. "We picked up pennies, nickels and dimes wherever we could," Hanley recalled. The memorial once had three bronze busts at its base representing the three branches of the armed forces, but they were destroyed by vandals in 1975. The Verdun Victory Memorial was constructed by Coeur de Lion MacCarthy for the city of Verdun and dedicated to the local war dead of the First World War. It was unveiled on 5 October 1924 by Jane Leavitt, a Verdun mother who lost three of her five sons in the First World War. The memorial originally stood in a park at the corner of Wellington Street and Mullarkey Avenue (now LaSalle Boulevard), but was moved in front of the city hall in 1959.

One statue depicts a Canadian solder in an exultant attitude, his shrapnel helmet in hand and his rifle raised in the spirit of victory. At the base of the monument is a female figure, symbolic of patriotism and peace, holding in her right hand the flags of victory and supporting with her left hand a shield bearing the arms of the City of Verdun.

The Second World War and Korean War were later added to the memorial's inscription.
